These fun coffee filter butterflies are a great way to welcome Spring and keep the kids busy without making a huge mess.
Required supplies:
Lay your coffee filters flat and start colouring on your canvas with colourful markers. Take your teaspoon or eyedropper and drip a few drops of water on the coffee filters until the canvas is wet. Lay your coffee filters out to dry overnight or, for quick-dry, in a sunny windowsill. Once dry, pull apart the filters. You will have to filters that look similar. Fold each coffee filter up accordion style, in about 1/2″ folds. Stack your filters on top of each other and secure with a pipe cleaner. Curl the ends of your pipe cleaner outwards to make a small spiral. Finally, pull apart the folds in the coffee filter to open them up and shape your butterfly.
Tip: Add a clothes pin and some googly-eyes to give your butterfly some personality!
Whether it's a family bike ride or walk, Niagara is home to some of the best trails for families with children of all ages. Prioritizing daily activity and fresh air is a great way to keep the kids active - burning most of the energy they have after a long winter of being inside. Check out our Winter Hiking and Activity Guide for our teams' top trails, including advice on what to bring and must-see stops along your route.
Don't forget to take some photos of the family having fun! A great after-hike activity is to create a homemade photo book. Simply print photos from your adventure, glue your photos to colourful construction paper, hole punch and tie pages together for a fun collection of memories.
Tip: Kids who are learning to write can add captions to photos and a fun title page to describe the day.
