From *mostly* mess-free crafts to cozy nights at home, discover three easy ways to create lifelong memories that will have you thinking, *why didn't I do this sooner?* ## Get Crafty There is no better time to bring out the craft supplies and make an afternoon out of being creative. The best part? Almost any materials can be used for fun crafts. From toilet rolls to empty tissue boxes, get your creative thinking cap on! Need to refresh your craft supplies? These fun coffee filter butterflies are a great way to welcome Spring and keep the kids busy without making a huge mess. ![Child holding coffee filter butterflies](https://blog.caaniagara.ca/hs-fs/hubfs/Image_Butterflies.png?width=1200&name=Image_Butterflies.png) ### How to make coffee filter butterflies Required supplies: - 2 coffee filters (small, 4-6 cup coffee makers) - Washable markers - 1 pipe cleaner - Clothes pin - Googly eyes - Water - Small measuring spoon or eye dropper Lay your coffee filters flat and start colouring on your canvas with colourful markers. Take your teaspoon or eyedropper and drip a few drops of water on the coffee filters until the canvas is wet. Lay your coffee filters out to dry overnight or, for quick-dry, in a sunny windowsill. Once dry, pull apart the filters. You will have to filters that look similar. Fold each coffee filter up accordion style, in about 1/2″ folds. Stack your filters on top of each other and secure with a pipe cleaner. Curl the ends of your pipe cleaner outwards to make a small spiral. Finally, pull apart the folds in the coffee filter to open them up and shape your butterfly. Prioritizing daily activity and fresh air is a great way to keep the kids active - burning most of the energy they have after a long winter of being inside. A great after-hike activity is to create a homemade photo book. Simply print photos from your adventure, glue your photos to colourful construction paper, hole punch and tie pages together for a fun collection of memories.
