Hitting the road to get away from it all is something many people look forward to doing each summer. Whether it be spending the weekend at the cottage, venturing to the nearest roadside attraction, or visiting family and friends that live a few hours away, there's a good chance you may find yourself driving a fair bit this season. If that’s the case, you’ll definitely want to make sure you pack the right items so you can get to your destination as efficiently as possible. When it comes time to load up the car, make sure you include the following four items to make your next road trip a successful one.

A car charger for your phone

As you’re probably all too familiar by now, our phones are vital to us in so many ways. If you are taking a route you are not familiar with, your phone can act as your GPS and safely guide you to your destination. You may also want to throw on a good playlist or podcast to stay entertained while driving. There is also a chance that you may need your phone to stay in touch with family or coworkers while away. Regardless of the reason, having a charger with you in the car is the way to go.

Comfort items

Sitting in a car for an extended period of time can be a little tough on the body. Taking off early in the morning or driving back home late at night might make your passengers desperate to catch a little shut eye. To make the ride a little easier, you should always consider wearing comfortable clothing and bringing items like pillows and blankets. As the driver, you may want some time to relax on the road as well. If so, make sure you have a plan to switch the driving duties to someone who is fully rested so you can kick back and stay safe on the road.

Snacks & Beverages

Nothing is worse than being on the road and hearing your stomach growling louder than the car itself. By keeping a stash of your favourite snacks and drinks, you and your passengers will be able to avoid the effects that come with hangriness and will stay energized throughout your travels. This way you can avoid having to pull off the highway and waiting in the long drive-thru lines at nearby fast food restaurants – especially if the crew you are travelling with all want to stop at a different place.

Your CAA Membership

One of the most important things you should always bring on the road with you is your CAA Membership. You never know when you could be stuck on with a flat tire or a dead car battery. Maybe you locked your keys inside your vehicle or need a tow to get you the rest of the way home. Whether you are the driver or one of the passengers who have a valid a Membership, you can rest assured knowing you’re in good hands – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Don't forget! Your CAA Membership will also help you save at participating Shell stations. Should you need to make a stop, be sure to look for the closest Shell Fuel Station so you can save 3¢/L on fuel, save 10% on in-store purchases, and 10% on car washes*. That way, if you forget to bring some the of items, or just need to stock-up on more, you’ll be able to save some money and be back on the road in no time.
