The capital city of Scotland has plenty of cool attractions to offer visitors. Edinburgh Castle is perhaps one of its more popular sites. Built on an extinct volcano, this structure is perched up above the area with stretch as far as the eye can see. The city is also home to over 100 parks and has more trees per person than any other city in the U.K. – making it perfect for those who love green space. Famed author of the Harry Potter series – J.K. Rowling – even drew inspiration for some of her books’ characters and locations. Sounds like Edinburgh is right out of a fairy tale to us!
Roughly 20 miles from the Scottish mainland are where you will find this group of over 70 islands and islets. A UNSECO World Heritage Site since 1999, draws thousands of people from all over the world to Scotland and is actually the country’s busiest cruise ship port. There is also a wide variety of marine and avian wildlife thriving on the island. As a matter of fact, about 15% of the world’s seal population lives here. Similarly to Edinburgh, there are many ancient sites and amazing views to be discovered while venturing through this part of Scotland. Be sure to bring your camera!
For anyone who loves the game of golf, this is a must-visit. As the birthplace of sport, the Old Course at St. Andrews, is widely considered the oldest golf course in the world. It is also host to The British Open – one of professional golf’s anticipated tournaments – every five years. While here, it’s also worth making a stop at St. Andrews Castle. No matter where you find yourself in Scotland, there always seems to be one of these impressive structures towering over the land somewhere.
