As ski season approaches, you’re probably planning to hit the slopes north of the border. Luckily Ontario has a great selection of ski resorts, many of which are a relatively short drive from Niagara.

Blue Mountain

If you’re looking for Ontario’s version of a ski town, Blue Mountain is the answer. The pedestrian-only village sets the scene for a picturesque ski holiday. You’ll spend your time strolling the streets, listening to live music, dining at the delicious restaurants and shopping at the numerous outdoor retailors. Once you’re on the hills you’ll have your choice of 42 slopes over 365 skiable acres and three snowparks, offering something for every level of skier. Blue Mountain also offers a wealth of other winter activities including snowshoeing, tubing, skating and more, making it the perfect place for a winter escape.

Mount St. Louis Moonstone

Located just outside of Barrie, Mount St Louis Moonstone is often considered to have the best slopes in Ontario. Home to 36 runs, 12 chairlifts and five terrain parks, Mount St. Louis Moonstone gives skiers the variety they are craving. The resorts also has an excellent Snow School program making it a great place for new skiers and snowboarders to learn the sport. While there are few après ski options, Barrie is only a short drive away and offers plenty in the way of entertainment.

Snow Valley

Also located a short drive outside of Barrie, Snow Valley is known as Ontario’s favourite family ski resort. While the resort doesn’t necessary offer a huge number of runs, Snow Valley has found its niche as a beginner level ski resort and offers a robust Learn to Ski & Ride program. While not on the slopes, the resort offers a variety of other ways for your family to experience winter including tubing, snowshoeing and more.

Horseshoe Resort

Horseshoe Resort is a great option for those who love all winter sports. While the resort is home to 29 runs and a terrain park for the downhill skier, it also has over 30 kilometers of cross-country trails, snowshoeing, fat biking, snowmobiling, skating and snowtubing. When you’ve had enough of the outdoors, spend a relaxing afternoon at the Amba Spa or dine at one of their delicious restaurants.
