CAA Niagara recognizes the importance of sustainability and practicing eco-friendly activities. We're proud to share our commitment to greener practices with you, our readers! Discover the many ways you can contribute to improving your community.

Go Greener at Home

Upgrade to energy-efficient light bulbs

Since natural lighting doesn't always suffice, try switching to energy-efficient light bulbs. They typically use between 70 to 90 percent less energy on average compared to conventional incandescent bulbs and last 15 times longer.

Zero Waste Kitchen Supplies

Cycling through sponges, towels, and plastic bags creates a lot of household waste. As an alternative, think about switching to sustainable, natural, or reusable products including compostable bags, and using cloths instead of paper towels.

Consider adding reusable water bottles and coffee cups to your daily routine.

Invest in a Rainwater Collector

Installing a rainwater collector in your yard will help plants thrive and reduce your water bill, all summer long. Check with your municipality when shopping for a rain barrel, as some communities offer free or low-cost options.

Drop off old electronics at a CAA Niagara Branch

Through March 2022, you can visit any CAA Niagara location to dispose of your old handheld electronics and small appliances. All items collected will be taken to Habitat for Humanity and will then be sold in their retail stores or recycled. Habitat for Humanity will then receive payment for the gadgets and devices that are recycled - which they then put towards building homes for families in Niagara.

Recycle old plastic gift cards

CAA Niagara has partnered with TerraCycle to help reduce plastic waste. Zero Waste Boxes have been set up for you to drop off your old gift cards, expired Memberships, bank cards, and IDs. Once full, the bins will be picked up and the plastic cards will be melted down and repurposed.

There are plenty of ways to add green to your routine. Do you have your own suggestion to add to the list above? Use the hashtag #CAAGoesGreen to join the conversation! To learn more about additional sustainable services at CAA Niagara, visit our website here.
