Purchasing travel insurance is a simple process, but choosing the appropriate coverage can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re travelling with kids in tow.
Below are answers to the frequently asked questions about purchasing travel insurance for the whole family.
Yes! CAA travel insurance offers a family plan that covers you, your spouse and all your children under one policy. Purchasing a family plan is a great way to save, especially for a large family, as premiums are calculated based on a simple formula:
$ amount of oldest parent’s insurance premium x 2.25 or 2.75 (depending on the insurance product purchased)
A family plan only covers children who are under 18, under 26 and full-time students, or dependent on parents (for example, if they have a disability). That means that if you have two children who are 13 and 15, they’re covered under the plan. An 18-year-old full-time university student would also be covered.
Yes! The formula works the same for grandparents as it does for parents:
$ amount of oldest parent’s insurance premium x 2.25 or 2.75 (depending on the insurance product purchased)
Keep in mind, grandparents or older parents travelling with kids might have a higher premium. Always compare the cost of a family plan with the cost of individual plans to ensure you’re getting the best value. You can always contact a CAA Niagara branch and one of our member services representatives will be happy to walk you through your options.
It’s these situations that make purchasing travel insurance so important. While you hope you never have to use it, travel insurance can protect you and your family from incurring huge medical bills in the event of an unforeseen injury or illness.
So, what do you do if someone in your family gets hurt or sick? CAA travel insurance makes it easy for you to get medical attention, no matter where you are in the world:
As long as you purchase a multi-trip family plan, your family is protected whether you travel together or separately. If your kids are on a school trip outside of Ontario or you’re travelling to Chicago for business, you’re still covered.
