Niagara wine pairings for every palate

May 7, 2020 | Jeremy Delacruz

With an array of wineries right in its backyard, it’s safe to say that Niagara has good taste. This hotbed for wine stretches from the benchlands of the escarpment all the way to Niagara-on-the-Lake, giving us endless access to some of the best blends out there. However, not everyone’s palate is as experienced as some when it comes to wine, so picking a flavour that works for you can seem a little intimidating.

Red wine cheers over dinner table.

As you may have already heard through the grapevine, CAA Niagara Rewards Partner, Lakeview Winery is home to a great selection wine. We’ve selected a few our staff favourites and paired them with delicious meals from a handful of CAA Rewards Restaurant Partners. Check out our suggestions below and give them a try this week.

Viognier & Swiss Chalet

Swiss Chalet has been a Canadian staple for family gatherings for over 60 years. Nothing sounds more appealing than their rotisserie chicken. It’s always hot and juicy, and served with the one and only chalet sauce. The Robin to the Batman, if you will.

Want to bring this delicious dynamic duo to another level? Try pairing it with the Lakeview Cellars Viognier.  Sourced from high quality vineyards from the Niagara Region, this delicate wine has vibrant notes of fresh-cut citrus and tangerine and will be the perfect match for Swiss Chalet’s Quarter Chicken White Meat Dinner.

Rosé & Montana’s BBQ & Bar

If you can’t wait for your local ribfest, Montana’s is happy to deliver some smokey goodness right to your front door. We recommend their famous fall-off-the-bone pork back ribs. They are an all-time favorite and lathered with their Texas-style BBQ sauce. Once they’re all served up, wipe off those saucy hands and grab a glass of EastDell Summer Rose.

Its dry and light flavour perfectly pair with saucy ribs and will have each mouthful taste as fresh as the next. The Rose will also bring bright scents of strawberries, raspberries and cranberries with a clean finish of citrus fruits making for a nice drink this summer.

Malbec & Kelsey’s Original Roadhouse

Grabbing a burger doesn’t always have to mean fast food. You can step up your burger game and order a creation to remember. We suggest Kelsey’s Peppercorn Swiss Burger. Kelsey’s fresh Canadian chuck patties are double-stacked and lightly coated with cracked black peppercorns, topped with two onion rings, pesto mayo and swiss cheese.

A bold burger deserves to be paired with a bold wine. Lakeview Cellars Malbec meets the standard. Though popular in Argentina, it is also grown here in Niagara. This Malbec is deep in colour with complex aromatics that include notes of pomegranate, plum and a hint of spice.

Baco Noir & Kully’s Original Sports Bar

Nothing beats a classic pizza and wing night. Whether it be for the big game or a night when you just don’t feel like cooking up a storm, Kully’s Original Sports Bar has you covered. Their authentic New York Style pizza goes great with their famous wings and a glass of Lakeview’s Serenity Baco Noir.

This full-bodied Baco shines with notes of smoky blackberries, black cherries and undertones of spiced oak, giving you the flavours of a bold red, but won’t overpower your pizza and wings.

Sauvignon Blanc & Chocolates Etc.

Chocolate and wine aren’t just for Valentine’s day, they go hand in hand all year long! Chocolate Etc. uses premium Belgian chocolate with all their molds and custom pieces, and offer different ranges of chocolate that will suit any craving.

Pair milk chocolate with a glass of Serenity Sauvignon Blanc. The aromatic notes of tropical fruits and gooseberry, hint of lime zest and delicate backbone of acidity will magically mix with the creaminess of the milk chocolate.

No matter which one of these options you choose, you’re taste buds are bound to be spoiled. Once you’ve decided on your next pairing, place your order and bon appetit! Visit the CAA Rewards Portal to discover more great CAA dining partners.
