3 commons ways to make Mother Nature a happy camper

No matter where you are, there are plenty of ways we can go green and be conscious of our impact on the environment. Before you even leave for your campsite, there are a few things to consider.

1. Pack Lightly

Depending on the length of your trip, you’ll have to pack accordingly but as lightly as possible. If you’re a seasoned camper, then this might not seem too difficult, but for those who aren’t as experienced, this is a crucial step. Make sure you have enough clothes to last you, but don’t over do it. Do some research ahead of time to see if there are any grocery stores near your destination. If you can, try and source your food from there. This will help avoid over packing – especially if you have perishable items. Remember, the lighter your load is the on the way up, the less fuel you’ll burn, which is a win-win for you and the environment.

2. Re-use, reduce and recycle.

This tip is applicable to any scenario but is important for those venturing out into the wilderness. Packing re-usable containers, whether they be for food, water or supplies, is a must. This will help reduce the amount of waste your campsite accumulates, making it easier on you in the long run. Having recycling bags and bins handy will help with this and will also keep things organized. If you decide to go for a hike or explore some trails, you’ll need to have some snacks and drinks readily available. If you’re food is in wrappers, keep a bag on you so that you can collect any waste you create and dispose of it when you get back to your site.

3. Embrace the sun.

By this I mean investing in a solar power hookup. This is a helpful tip for a couple reasons. First, it gives your electronics a healthy source of natural energy throughout the day. This will also give you more destinations to choose from as you won’t require alternative energy sources. There’s no denying the strength of the sun, especially in the summer, so you might as well make the most of it.
