# Ghouls, Goblins and Good Memories! Keep Safe This Halloween.

Halloween is a thrilling time for families, filled with costumes, candies, and spooky decorations. However, safety should always be a top priority, especially when children are involved. Here are some spooktacular safety tips to ensure your family's Halloween [celebrations](https://blog.caaniagara.ca/how-to-celebrate-your-family-with-caa) are fun, memorable, and safe.

## **Pumpkin Carving Safety:**

Carving pumpkins is a cherished Halloween tradition. Younger children can participate by drawing designs while adults do the carving. Use battery-operated candles or glow sticks to illuminate pumpkins, as they are safer alternatives to open flames.

## **Costume Safety:**

One of the highlights of Halloween is dressing up in creative costumes. To keep it safe, make sure costumes are flame-resistant and fit well to avoid tripping hazards. Attach reflective tape or stickers to costumes for better visibility at night and opt for face paint instead of masks to ensure clear vision.

## **Trick-or-Treating Rules:**

When heading out for trick-or-treating, establish ground rules with your children. Use well-lit paths and sidewalks, and always walk on the left side facing traffic. Remind kids not to enter strangers' homes and to only visit well-lit houses. Equip them with flashlights or glow sticks for extra visibility.

## **Candy Inspection:**

Before indulging in their sweet treats, examine all candy and goodies for any signs of tampering or damage. Only accept factory-sealed items and avoid homemade treats from unknown sources. This precaution ensures that every treat is safe to enjoy.

## **Supervision Matters:**

Never leave young children unsupervised during Halloween festivities. Older kids should have a predetermined curfew and check-in times.
