Travel items popping out of a suitcase on a tropical beach

Whether you’re escaping the cold weather, visiting family abroad or discovering a new destination, nothing beats the feeling of excitement that comes before a vacation. To ensure your trip gets off to a good start, we’ve compiled a list that we like to call the "Five P’s of Pre-travel". Check them out below so you can takeoff with peace of mind.

Prepare a packing list

If you are someone who often worries about leaving something behind, creating a packing list will do you wonders. Making note of any clothing, accessories, toiletries and gadgets you are bringing will not only benefit you before you leave, it will also make life much easier when you are heading back home. This way, you can have those important items with you no matter where you are.

Print out copies of important documents

While you might already have digital versions of your flight details and reservations saved on your phone or laptop, printing out a physical copy will come in handy should their batteries die, or you misplace them. Do the same for any pieces of ID or bank cards so you have a backup in the event they go missing as well. Place these in a folder and make sure you add them to your packing list!

Pick out your favourite comfort items

If you will be on the road or in the air for an extended period, consider wearing an outfit that you can relax in. Loungewear, athleisure, and clothing made from softer materials should do. To stay entertained throughout your journey, download playlists or episodes from your favourite shows. This will get the fun started and keep you preoccupied during travel. Of course, you might also want to catch some shut eye before you arrive. Bringing a blanket, ear plugs, eye cover and neck pillow will help you do just that.

Plan an itinerary for your stay

Having a list of things you’d like to do while you’re away is always a great idea. Before you leave, do a little bit of research to see if there are any cool landmarks or attractions that you may want to visit. You should also look at the forecast so you can plan your activities around any poor weather days. That way you’ll make the most of the time you have during your vacation.

Purchase Travel Insurance

Perhaps one of the most important – and often overlooked – things you should do ahead of your trip is buying travel insurance. There’s nothing worse than having the unexpected ruin the trip you’ve been looking forward to. With CAA Travel Insurance, you can protect your travel investment with coverage for you and your family in the event of a medical emergency, cancellation, or lost luggage and damage.
